Title: Chinese Cockroaches and Other Things
Category: other
Blog Entry: OK, I don't care what anyone says, cockroaches are cute. They're like little puppy dogs; inquisitive, naughty, run around stupidly. They have different personalities, they clean their little feelers with their little nibblers, they have cute little faces...seriously, they're gorgeous

I've also developed a thing for bats. They fly around at twilight scooting up and down between the buildings 'I'm a bat, I'm a bat, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' or whatever it is that bats think. They're just little things and they amass in groups and play with eachother. Very cute

Upwards of a hundred dragon flies hang around all the palm trees and sprinklers, buzzing around happily in the near suffocating heat.

There are heaps of giant stick insects (who seems to confuse our green curtains with a tree) and weird beetles with long feeler things that are always being attacked by ants

And there's geckos here too. Started to name them individually (Lee, Chi, Yi, Bi Kou, etc) but there's too many of them, so now they're all just 'Big Lee' or 'Baby Lee'.

The mozzies are awful, but the geckos keep them resonably in check. And the wasps are scary bastards - huge, bright evil looking things, though probably really nice if you got to know one.

Handicapped dogs, snails the size of your hand, rats in the school canteen fighting it out with cats, giant spiders with big black eye patterns on their backs, frogs chirping endlessly, - home sweet home

OK, so it took me a while to get use to the roaches... but now they're just part of the family... and what's the point of getting grossed out or angry at stuff you can't control (I'm not gonna kill a poor little cockie when he's just looking for something to eat - trying to feed the family, keep the missus happy, etc)? Better just to see the beauty in it.
